Grout Selection Chart

Chemical Grout Selection Chart

This easy to use selection chart can assist
in the selection of Grouts & Epoxies
for specific project types.

How to Choose a Grout:

Selection of grouts used to seal cracks is based on some of the points below; however, much of the selection process is also based on user preference. A skilled technician with years of experience will likely have alot of insight as to which particular type of grout will bring about the desired results. It is often the case in commercial contracts that the injection contractor will submit a resquest to the contract administrator for product substitution to better achieve the goals of a particular project.

    • Required end product flexibility.
    • Viscosity in relation to crack/joint width.
    • Expansion required (adjustable with activators).
    • Hydrophobic (incorporates little water into end product), or hydrophilic (incorporates a much higher amount of water into final product).

Flexibility:
Each urethane grout has its own characteristics. One of them is the resulting flexibility of the end product. Thought should be given to the amount of flexibility required if the crack or joint is active. The more active it is, the greater the flexibility required.
Here is a listing of the most flexible urethane grout to the least flexible:

  MOST FLEXIBLE

        • Leak-Proof FLEX-LV, Leak-Proof FLEX, AquaFLEX
        • Leak-proof SEMI-FLEX
        • Leak-Proof CUT

                  MORE RIGID

Viscosity:
Is an important factor in the products ability to flow. The lower the viscosity of a particular grout, the easier it will be to "push" it along in a tight crack or joint. Low viscosity means lower injection pressures and better travel.
Conversely, if the crack or joint is wider than, lets say the thichness of a credit card, the low viscosity product may run out of the crack or drop to the bottom of the crack before it can begin to react and foam. This may cause a poor injection. In selecting your grout for a particular project, you should give proper consideration to the viscosity of the product based for the width of the crack. You may temporarily close up the crack by jamming hydraulic cement or something else into it until the product completes the initial cure. We highly recommend performing an 5% acid flush and water flush prior to injection with any material. This will generally allow for better movement of material, better adhesion to the crack surface, and better product reaction. The epoxy resins will push water out of the crack ahead of itself and they are moisture insensitive.

Expansion:
Each product will expand to a different degree based on the amount of activator (required to be mixed with product) or accelerator (optional) used. You will get to know your expansion rates in differing field conditions with experience.

Also get to know the individual products and how they differ by reading the individual Product Data Sheets often. If you would like to request a particular product Please get to know the differing product by reading the various Product Data Sheets often. If there is a specific type of product you would like to suggest that we should make, please email us at sales@leak-proof.com and let us know.
