Info Basics - Dry Cutting
Quick Reference - Material Applications:
| "GA" Series
Dry Cutting Blades |
...intended for use on high speed, gas
powered cut-off saws.
These saws normally come in either 12" (6300 RPM) and 14" (5400 RPM)
versions.
Arbor hole size may ranges from 20mm to 7/8 and 1". |
| |
| "MA" Series |
...intended primarily for masonry saw
cutting uses. |
| Dry Cutting Blades |
Popular, small hand held electric
circular saws will utilize 4" - 8" blades. |
| |
Arbor holes normally found are 5/8".
Some 7 and 8" saws use a diamond knock-out arbor. e.g. the 8" worm drive
units. |
| |
These same sizes, 4 through 8" will also
be found mounted on angle grinders used for cutting and will normally
require 5/8" - 7/8" arbor holes. |
| |
"MA" designed blades of the 10" through
20" variety normally find use on masonry or tile type saws. These saws
are your typical "chop" type with moveable table where upon the material
is pushed through the cutting blade. |
| |
Ten (10) inch versions use a 5/8" arbor;
all others utilize a one (1) inch arbor. |
| |
these masonry saws normally operate
either wet or dry and turn much slower than portable gas saws. |
| |
They are normally powered by electric
motors ranging from 1HP to 5HP. |
| |
Some gas powered versions do exist also. |
Using Dry Cutting Blades on Small Slab/Floor
Saws:
Criteria to Consider:
If at all possible, use wet cutting blades and
water. Due to their dry cutting nature, dry cut blades will not provide the
footage of a wet cutting blade used with water.
Other General Points to Consider:
Many customers will cut expansion joints dry.
Unless this floor is fully cured (months or years) it's probably still green
underneath the skin. If the floor saw is 10+ HP, consider using a GA-400 for
fast cutting or a GA-500 for footage; however, speed of cut will be less.
Use dry cutting blades on 11 HP or smaller saws. Use the same way as on a
hand-held saw i.e.: cut no more than 1 or 2 inches deep, cut intermittently;
that is, pull blade out of cut every so many feet and let it spin freely to air
cool.
The same applies to older cured concrete... the GA-300 will provide a much
faster cut, but a GA-400 will provide much better footage with a slight loss of
speed.
