I thought I would post this as the position taken by the City of Barrie, ON for the requirement of getting a building permit for weeping tile replacements.

I know that many other municipalities do require a permit. Check for your area, then post it here.

To Whom It May Concern:

In response to your inquiry for a building permit for drainage tile replacement, it is not required as a standard practice with the City of Barrie.  As confirmed with Building Inspector Andy Jones a permit can be applied for if the home owner feels more comfortable having the City inspect it but it is not required for the replacement of draining tile.  This is are current practice though this is subject to change, it is recommended that you verify with a plans examiner or building inspector every so often to insure that we have no changes are policy.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Joceline Roi
